An Open Letter

An open letter to all trend setters/fashion editors/style makers:

Leggings? Seriously?

I'll admit I'm all for a nice opaque stocking underneath a tunic or dress. And when we're exercising (yoga, cycling, running) sometimes leggings are called for not only for comfort but for warmth. But do we really need to continue this dreadful "leggings as street wear" trend? Leggings should not be worn as pants. No matter what size you wear, they just aren't meant for human consumption.

Won't you stand beside me and consider a ban on leggings? It really could be a way for the fashion community to nobly serve others. You see, the leggings trend is not a victimless crime. The American public should not be forced to look at any woman wearing leggings with a shirt that hits her at her natural waste. (sadly this happened to me just this afternoon!!!) and this is what will continue to happen as long as leggings are promoted as pants. I think we can all agree that camel toe and butt crack are not fashion statements. And I, for one, would like to do my part to protect others from suffering the way i have.

After all, it doesn't matter if Lindsay Lohan's name is all over a pair of your knee-padded leggings and you bought them for $100+, it still doesn't make them attractive. I can't help but wonder if there are even grounds for some sort of class action suit against Ms. Lohan. To me, her leggings line might be considered a crime against humanity. Believe me, if you'd witnessed what i did today, you might agree.

So, I'm pleading with all you trend setters, fashion editors and style makers... you CAN make a difference. It isn't too late to put a stop to this horrible fashion tragedy. But it starts with each one of us making the commitment to change. Because really, we know where this trend heads next. If we give in to leggings today, it will be stirrup pants tomorrow. It is a slippery slope, people.

Won't you answer the call now before it's too late?

In hopes of protecting the innocent bystanders,
molly
