Cinema Under the Stars

Apparently July is the month for outdoor movies in Chattanooga?!? Of course, just any old July might be miserably muggy, hot and sticky - not exactly ideal to sit outside. But not THIS July. July 2009 has been insane. This month has served up mild temperatures and spring like breezes. Nothing like what we've come to expect from July in the Scenic city. It has been the absolute perfect weather for watching movies outside. And we have done just that.
Our first was on July 11th when my handsome husband and I had a summer date night. We took a picnic dinner to Coolidge Park in anticipation of a super fun FREE event that this city has to offer. For 3 Saturday nights in July they show movies downtown on the waterfront. We ate fried chicken and biscuits and then walked across the Walnut street bridge for ice cream cones. We got back to our spot just in time to watch the sun set and the inflatable screen pop up. We watched Kung Fu Panda from the comfort of our lawn chairs under the stars.

The next week we were invited by Lisa & Josh to experience Chattanooga's Drive In for the first time. What a night. We got there with plenty of time to enjoy a little time goofing around as the sun set. We hung out and talked and had an impromptu photo session. Once it got dark, we settled in for the latest Harry Potter flick and funnel cake. The weather was absolutely perfect. Since the drive in is up on a mountain, the temperature dropped so that we had to cuddle up under blankets! In mid JULY, people! Check Lisa's explanation of the evening and some more great photos from our evening here. (please, don't try to sell the photos to J.Crew for their next catalog. Not one of us has time to add modeling to our already busy schedules.)

Not wanting to end our streak, we went back to Coolidge Park this past weekend to enjoy another movie under the stars. More friends, more fun, more memories. The picnic consisted of brats and yummy, yummy fresh tomato salad and this time we watched Madagascar 2. Having never seen the first Madagascar, I was worried I might have plot issues. Turns out it wasn't as difficult to figure out as I anticipated. And though the day's temps were a bit warmer the evening was just as perfect as it's predecessors. So perfect, in fact, that another impromptu photo session occurred!
